Our Story
Meet the Heart Behind Core K9 Training
One of the first questions we’re asked is, “Why did you name your company Core K9?”
The answer is simple — and it defines everything we do.
At Core K9 Training, we focus on the core of dog training and behavior: building a strong, reliable foundation of obedience. That means your dog listens whether you’re relaxing on the couch, hosting guests, hiking through the woods, or walking down a busy store aisle. Obedience isn’t just for training sessions — it should follow your dog everywhere.
We proudly offer both obedience training and behavior modification to dogs across Richmond and Lexington, KY — including those other trainers have given up on. In fact, many of our clients come to us after working with multiple other trainers without seeing results.
We’re not miracle workers — but we are committed, experienced, and relationship-based trainers who believe that with the right guidance, any dog can learn. We’ve helped countless dogs avoid being surrendered or euthanized, and we’re here to help you and your dog build the life you both deserve!

Yes! All of our methods are tested on our own dogs — including obedience, reactivity work, off-leash control, and competitive dog sports. We don’t just teach it — we live it, every day.
We work with all breeds and behavior types — but we’re especially known for helping dogs with leash reactivity, off-breed working dogs in protection sports, and families looking for calm, reliable companions.
Honestly, it all started with a little frustration and a lot of curiosity. I wanted to compete with my horse, but without a truck or trailer, I was constantly relying on others — which got old fast. One day I thought, “Huh… I wonder if there are dog shows?” A quick search led me to Rally Obedience, and as fate would have it, a local trainer was starting a Rally class the following week. I signed up, and the bond I built with my dog during that class was life-changing. I asked the trainer to teach me more, and from that moment, I was hooked. Dog training went from a side interest to a full-blown passion — and eventually, my career.
